NYC Fashion Week February 2010

Fashion week, it's that time of year when everything looks prettier in NYC. Perhaps it's New Yorkers and tourists alike, gallavanting about with their new Dior handbags or their Prada coats. Maybe it's the shiny heels, colorful dresses or the overflowing energy.



This year I worked with several different photographers and designers. I mainly assisted in event production which was truly exciting. As a model, most tend to think that you are one sided, but in this industry, my already versatile personality has only expanded. I love shooting, modeling, assisting in event production etc. It's all part of the game. So when asked to assist in dressing the models, I said "sure!", when asked to host the main event for closing night of Fashion Week at Bryant Park Hotel, I said "why the heck not?!" And so, from beginning to end, fashion week was not only a great experience but a huge networking success.

The Beginning

Let me begin by introducing myself! My name is up there, right at the top of the blog :) It's Vanessa and it means: Butterfly. I'm 25 from NYC and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love life, I love living it and I love what I do. I was 17 when I started modeling and decided that it was my passion, it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life...or till I got wrinkled up lol

I love being in front of the camera, it's one of those things that is hard to explain. The flash, the clicks and the ever changing poses and ideas. The warmth of the lighting and the rush of knowing you are what others will see. I model like no one is watching- if it's true for dance, why not for modeling? There's a moment in every shoot when your mental state completely changes and a million organized thoughts flow through. Every single thought creating an expression, every thought turning into an image. If you can look at the finished product and still feel the same emotion you felt when you were shooting it, then your day's work is done.

I'm currently the face of Holland based brand, JustProud. JustProud is a community driven fashion brand. As a model, I will be doing my part to assist in the release of their new clothing lines. I will also continue shooting with photographers worldwide as practice does make perfect and I enjoy keeping my portfolio up to date.
